For over 17 years, db Editorial has produced commercials, broadcast and cable programming, and corporate videos, accumulating Tellys, ADDYs, a CLIO, and an Emmy along the way. Owner David Baertsch has worked in production for over 30 years. His career has spanned live news, online editing, and complete post-production.
db Editorial primarily focuses on turnkey production for corporate clients. Corporate clients come in with a concept and db Editorial writes, shoots, designs graphics, and edits. Baertsch edits in Avid Symphony and Media Composer and uses a lot of Adobe After Effects for graphics compositing.
For many years, db Editorial had searched for a way to link projects and media from their Avid editing systems to After Effects in order to layer effects on live action. Although they tried other tools, they could never get them to work properly within their workflow. When Boris Transfer AE was released, they immediately gave it a try, and it worked perfectly right out of the box.

“Boris Transfer AE is an amazing tool! I installed it and in two minutes – and one attempt – I had transferred an Avid program sequence to After Effects,” commented Baertsch. “The ability to transfer Avid program sequences to After Effects with titles, dissolves, and Boris Continuum Complete effects intact saves us a significant amount of time. I really love being able to use the BCC plug-ins in Avid and get the same look in After Effects without having to reapply the effects.”

db Editorial further streamlined its workflow by adding Calibrated Software’s Calibrated{Q} MXF Import software application. Using Calibrated{Q} MXF Import in conjunction with Boris Transfer AE, they are also able to use their original Avid MXF media in After Effects.
Concluded Baertsch, “When I first tried Boris Transfer AE, it literally left me speechless. As we migrate to Adobe CS5.5 and the latest Avid Media Composer and Symphony releases, Boris Transfer AE is a key cog in our workflow. We plan to use it forever.”
