Living On the Edge: "Painting" Video with RGB Edges

Here are some quick effects that I'll bet you didn't know were possible with Boris FX: making your video look like it was drawn with colored pencils, with charcoal, and with watercolors. You're not going to believe how easy these effects are to create.

The tools we're going to use are centered around a filter you may never have noticed before: RGB Edges in the Noise category.

Because this filter uses the information found in your clip's edge detail, you'll get wildly different results depending on the kind of movie you're using. So while I'll start with some recipes for you based on specific footage, I'll also offer some idea of the controls you can use to create effects based on your own footage.

Start by downloading the movie we'll be working with here. It's pretty inane by itself - a bus driving by outside our office - but that's kind of the point. Even the dullest footage can look quite magical indeed with just a little help from BORIS.
