There are four main windows that open by default in the Graffiti user interface:
The Controls Window (usually on the left of the screen), which is where all effect parameters are modified by the user.
The Timeline Window (usually on the bottom of the screen), which lists the available tracks in the vertical composite.
The Composite Window (usually on the right of the screen), which displays the final result of the timeline composite.
The text generator window (usually in the middle and above all other windows), which is where text is generated.
Select Window>Library Browser from the pulldown list.
The Library Browser contains factory installed preset compositions such as animated or static lower third text effects, 2D and 3D animated charts, filtered transitions etc. We'll use one of the animated presets to generate a piece of text that flies on screen automatically without having to generate any of the keyframes manually.
Close the Library Browser Window - we'll come back to the Browser later in the tutorial.
Double click on the text track in the Timeline Window to open the Title Generator Window if closed or to bring it to the front of the screen when it is hidden behind other windows.
Type in the desired text in the Title Generator - we'll type the words BORIS GRAFFITI.
Drag over the text to select it.
Set the font size to 48 and the font face to Arial Black via the pop-ups in the Title Generator Window.
Close the Title Generator Window when you have finished creating the title text.
Select the text track in the timeline.
Open the Library Browser Window by selecting it from the Window pulldown menu.
If the thumbnail library has been build already, then you should see a thumbnail preview for each effect preset. If the library previews have not been build, you can do so by clicking on the Generate Thumbnails button in the Library Browser Window.
Scroll down through the library and select the category Animated Text In and then the sub-category Zooms.
Click on the preset named zoomIn.grf, then click on the play button. The title that you created should now be displayed in an animated thumbnail in the window at the top left of the Library Browser.
Click on the red button named Open Project to apply this animated effect to the title that you created.
An option box will appear when you click this button asking whether you want to save the effect settings. Press no.
