The Boris Calligraphy title generator for Final Cut Pro uses Boris FX core technology to create vector-based titles directly inside Final Cut Pro. Boris Calligraphy is included free with Final Cut Pro version 3.0 and later. Boris Calligraphy includes two Final Cut Pro Generators, Title Crawl and Title 3D. Title Crawl allows users to easily animate a text page. Title 3D allows you to create vector-based text that you can animate in 3D space. Static titles play in real time on systems with the RTMac board as long as no keyframes are created in the Controls tab.

The Boris Calligraphy generators appear in the Final Cut Pro Generator menu. If they do not appear, install them from the Final Cut Pro installer CD. FCP users can also download a free update to Calligraphy version 1.1.

While Graffiti and Red offer the same Text window, they offer additional animation features including true 3D text, text on a path, type on text and a selection of filters that can be applied to text including lighting and particles.

Calligraphy Plug-ins

Both Calligraphy Generators use the controls in the Text window to affect text on a character basis, allowing users to assign different styles, colors, drop shadows, borders, and fill to individual characters. In addition, Calligraphy's Style Palette can be used to apply style presets or create and save styles settings for future use. In addition, the Gradient Editor allows you to create and map custom gradients to text. Then use Final Cut Pro's Motion tab to animate the text.

Text Window

The Text window is where you create and format your text. The Text window parameters are applied to the selected text characters, allowing for multiple text styles per page, line, or even word.

Style Palette

The Style Palette allows you to save and categorize styles. The Style Palette also includes preset styles.

Gradient Editor

The Gradient Editor allows you to create custom gradients that you
can use as the fill for text.

Title Crawl

Calligraphy's Title Crawl effect automatically keyframes the text to roll or crawl across the screen. Text is automatically aligned and animated so that users no longer have to set keyframes in the timeline.

Title 3D

Calligraphy's Title 3D Generator offers vector-based text that can be manipulated in 3D Space with full pivot control, animated tracking and other text transformations. Once users set the characteristics of the individual characters, Calligraphy allows users to easily animate the text.

Calligraphy's Title 3D Generator can also be used on systems with the RTMac board to create static slates. Users can animate the slates in real time using the parameters on the Generator's Motion tab.
