This effect uses vector paint as a mask to reveal text, which is positioned in 3D space. The spotlight is a true light, casting and receiving shadows that accurately reflect the relative positions of the elements in the scene.

An additional light is applied to the "glow" which appears to write the word "Reveal" onscreen, but to no other layers. With its own light source, it truly glows, even when outside the area lit by the spotlight.

Although they are not in this scene, every parameter of RED's lights is animatable, including color, source and target position, intensity, spread, shadow intensity, and more. Apply modes on lights can also be animated, rather than simply set modally.
